Self-esteem vrs self-compassion
Feb 06, 2023Pursuing self-esteem can be a slippery slope; one minute you feel confident and successful, the next you could be crushed because of a mistake or failure. This kind of fluctuation in self-esteem is something that people who struggle with issues of narcissism experience most acutely but it is something any of us can be affected by.
Self-compassion provides a much more stable ground on which to stand. With self-compassion we learn to treat ourselves with kindness and understanding, no matter the situation. We look upon ourselves without judgement, recognising our strengths and limitations. Our self-worth is no longer contingent on our success – it comes from within, freeing us from constantly searching for approval and validation from others.
